Vanessa Wallace
I am a Brisbane artist inspired by still life arrangements and haphazard domestic
beauty. Painted in acrylics, my works are centred on decorative vessels, botanicals
and the everyday. A collector of ceramics, fabrics, art books and artworks, I love to
arrange my belongings into moody tableaux with a clash of colour and pattern, or
imagine beautiful juxtapositions. Each painting is a melange of my inspirations,
experiences, memories, nostalgia and surroundings.
Growing up in Byron Bay in the 1970-90s meant I was surrounded by the beauty of
the natural world and a creative community. Having since worked in the graphic
design and ceramics professions, I now take pleasure in dabbing layers of paint
across a canvas, building a sense of solidity in objects and then applying fine details
or linework.
