Lisa Bell

I have a background in science and art, having worked as an Optometrist, while also
participating in exhibitions as an artist and previously volunteering as a 2D curator at the
Brisbane Grammar Art Show. My still life paintings have featured in the Lethbridge 20 000
Small Scale Finalists exhibitions. The inspiration for my paintings stems from my passion for
art history, travel and my love of colour. I enjoy painting cityscapes, still life and abstract
works.
My Still Life paintings evoke a sense of nostalgia by documenting loved objects, expressing
personal sentiment through the emotional impact of colour. For me, my practice is about
escaping the harsh realities of life. Rather than avoidance, this is an active practice to find
solace and experience calm and wellness through embracing the beauty of everyday
objects. Red Camellia Love takes me back to my memories of Macau where I bought the
vase and transports me to the present by the addition of Red Camellias grown in my garden.
It is a reminder to stop and smell the “roses” (camellia’s) and enjoy the fleeting moments of
joy and love that life offers. In Colour Love I have distilled these emotions into a joyful and
meditative practice of engaging with colour.
