Jodie Ramsay
Vibrantly coloured flowers are Jodie’s muse. Armidale, the quaint country town where Jodie
grew up is filled with stunning roses due to the cold climate. She would walk to school every day passing beautiful, English inspired gardens with an array of blooms and she began painting flowers in her early teens. After graduating from studying Art at All Hallows’ School in Brisbane, the Artist obtained a degree in Visual Arts at Queensland University of Technology. She travelled abroad and frequented many of the world’s best modern art galleries and undertook a course at the TATE Modern in London to further her artistic skills.
A lover of Art History, Jodie embarked on a journey to visit the homes and studios of her
favourite artists; Frida Kahlo in Mexico, Pablo Picasso in Spain, Vincent Van Gogh in Holland and Albert Namajira, Ken Done and Margeret Olley here in Australia.
Jodie’s abstract floral still lifes and expressionist abstract paintings exude vivifying pops of
spectacular colour. Although abstract and modern in design, her floral paintings have a
beautiful traditional feel. Jodie is renowned for her striking use of kaleidoscopic colour and
is not one to follow trends, rather she paints from the heart, celebrating colour and the
invigorating and joyful breath it brings to one’s life.
Jodie has exhibited her work at two solo shows on the Sunshine Coast. Her art studio is
located on Gubbi Gubbi land in Noosa where she lives with her husband, two daughters and dog Frank.
