Lindy Mackintosh

I am a practising artist as well as a Teacher of Visual Arts at Brisbane Grammar School.
I would describe myself as a figurative oil painter, fascinated with reflections. I studied
Education, majoring in Art, and I have a great love of teaching drawing and painting.
Originally from Johannesburg, I have conducted art classes and workshops from my home
and belonged to different art studios over time. I have exhibited my work in numerous group
exhibitions.
In my work I aim to capture and articulate mood, depicting people in everyday situations in
an uncomplicated style as I attempt to describe the effects of light on a subject. Light is a
recurring theme in my paintings as I carefully depict the interplay between light and dark,
creating mood.
In terms of subject matter, I focus on painting people, reflections and objects that hold
meaning for me. Many of my paintings have been figurative with some narrative
suggestion depicting a moment in time. Still-life painting is also of interest to me and I often
draw and paint objects that hold significance; while my landscape works have often been
more abstract in nature, I tend to show great attention to detail in my still-life painting.
