Eric Smith

Having thoughtlessly abandoned my artistic endeavours upon leaving the schooling
system many years ago, I have returned to resume a practice that once came so
naturally to me. I am drawn (pun intended!) to portraiture. I enjoy the challenge of trying to capture a likeness, an expression, a mood. Can I manipulate colour, lighting and composition to imbue my images with a sense of life, warmth, softness. You can find further
examples of my work at ‘instagram.com/a_creative_existence/

I enjoy the challenge of trying to articulate an idea. How closely can I replicate what I
‘see’, so that others can also see it. How closely does the completed work resemble
the initial idea, does it adequately convey the message I was trying to articulate.
I am excited by the opportunity to create. That process by which an ‘idea’, an
ephemeral thought, a shapeless, intangible notion, a firing of neurons, can be
brought into existence by giving it substance, colour, form, dimension.
