Jen Foxton
Jen is a Toowoomba-based artist whose current art practice features medium to large semi-abstract landscapes on canvas in oil, acrylic or mixed media.
Jen has had moderate success in Queensland regional art shows since 2005. Her
introduction to exhibiting came with the first Hampton Festival Art Show in 2003.
Since then she has won the Hampton Art Show painting of the show twice, in 2007 and
again in 2019. She also won highly commended awards at the small regional art shows at Mitchell and Linville during the 2000s.
Jen’s works have been featured at a small number of private venues including the openingof the Bunnyconnellen Cellar Door in 2013.
In addition, Jen has exhibited at the local Toowoomba Grammar and Downlands Art Shows since 2015 and at Aspects Art Show at Goondiwindi in 2022 and 2023. In January 2021, Jenny held her first solo gallery exhibition at Toowoomba Regional Art Gallery, titled ‘Landscapes of Change’.
A bush upbringing engendered a deep reverence for the natural environment. This and
concerns about accelerating environmental change inspired this body of work.
Jen’s works have been described as ‘organic’. By applying thin and thick layers, scraping
back and reapplying paint, her subjects reveal themselves and entice the viewer to look
more closely.
She has drawn particular inspiration from Australian artists Fred Williams, Elisabeth
Cummings and John Olsen.
Jen’s works appear on her website, www.jenfoxtonart.com and on her Instagram site,
JenFoxtonArt .
