Fiona Bissett

I am an emerging artist based in the Southern Gold Coast Hinterland. My work reflects contemporary coastal life, with subjects ranging from landscapes and botanical to figurative. to represent these subjects freely, and am primarily concerned with creating something I consider beautiful, rather than focusing on being overly representational. I use mixed media techniques and processes in multiple layers and allow these to influence the direction the work takes. I frequently use collage elements, particularly rice and self-made papers. The finished layers are subtle, sometimes abstracted and occasionally quirky. My work has been described as romantic and dreamy.

Largely self-taught, I developed my painting practice over the last decade through attendance at weekly studio classes, further supplemented through participation in artist workshops. I now paint full time and had my first solo exhibition in 2023 at Wild Canary in Brisbane. I exhibit regularly in group exhibitions, and have won numerous awards with RQAS.
