Collection: Sharon Monagle

Sharon Monagle

Sharon Monagle is an Australian visual artist whose practice is driven by a daily commitment to making art. Largely self-taught, she works predominantly with acrylics, creating portrait and figurative works informed by abstract expressionism. Her paintings explore and articulate the complexities of human behaviour, emotion and identity.

Based in Somers on the Mornington Peninsula, Sharon began painting in earnest in 2016. Her work engages with themes of politics, social justice, human rights, gender identity, gender roles and feminism. Alongside her artistic practice, she works as a medical practitioner with a strong interest in mental health—an experience that deeply informs her fascination with the human condition, particularly the lived experiences of women.

Sharon has exhibited widely, with works held in private collections across Australia, the United Kingdom, France, Canada, Singapore and the United States. Three of her works are held in the permanent collection at Château d’Orquevaux, France.
