Pippita Bennett

Pippita Bennett is a Blue Mountains artist, primarily working with textiles. She is interested in responding to landscape and place.

Pippita uses site specific plants to dye fabric and thread, embodying them with a memory of the landscape. She begins each artwork by drawing with a needle and thread, following the lines of a branch or a rock or a felt sense, until she feels grounded and connected. Pippita adds layers of stitch and fabric, recording time and place. Pippita’s process is slow, contemplative and immersive.

Pippita studied art at the University of Sydney’s Tin Sheds as part of her Architecture degree with a focus on print making and drawing. She has been working with textiles since she could hold a needle.

Pippita was a finalist in the Stanthorpe Art prize, Fisher Ghost Art Award, Regional Landscape prize, Blacktown Art Prize and Hornsby Art prize. She has had solo exhibitions at the Corner Store Gallery in Orange, Platform Art Gallery and Scratch Art Space. and has exhibited in numerous group shows.
