Kym Mullen

Kym Mullen is a contemporary painter based in Meanjin / Brisbane,
Her work is an ongoing exploration of colour and mark to describe moments
in time. Works consist of built up layers of marks that are built up instinctively
and colours are chosen as the works progress responding to the ones that
have come before.

Although her current work begins in the landscape, once back in her studio
they become less and less literal as distance and memory start to impact the
work. First pieces are almost always in watercolour and gouache and it is
these works painted without reference, from memory, that then inform the
final oil paintings.

She has been a finalist in art prizes including the Milburn prize, the National
Emerging Art Prize, Lethbridge Landscape Prize, Lethbridge 20000 and most
recently The Queens Wharf Brisbane Art Prize .
