Collection: Jason Hawkins
Jason Hawkins is an Australian artist whose work is driven by a desire to immerse the viewer within the painting itself. Using bold brushstrokes, palette knives and a range of tools, he builds texture and a painterly surface that captures an impression of lived experience. He works primarily in oil on board or linen, drawn to the depth, richness and vibrancy that high-quality oils provide.
Jason’s practice currently centres on two key themes: urban cityscapes—particularly places of interest in and around South-East Queensland—and wildlife. He regularly paints on location, venturing into popular sites on weekends to capture fleeting moments of colour, light and atmosphere.
Plein air painting is central to his process, allowing him to work quickly and intuitively while continually refining his skills. Many of these smaller works later inform larger studio pieces, which are developed from the painted studies rather than photographic references.
