Jane Sankey is a Sydney resident and she loves her beautiful harbourside neighbourhood blessed with pockets of greenery and idyllic waterfront parkland.

Jane primarily creates acrylic paintings on stretched canvas. She loves to paint colourful and joyful works, mostly inspired by Australian flora, bushland and inner city streetscapes. Driven by colour, texture and movement, she paints very intuitively, often with little pre-planning but responds to the colours and marks as they appear. “I am not neat - I love the accidental magic that happens when I let my brush hand drive” she says.

Jane wants the viewer to feel the energy and passion behind each paint stroke and gain a sense of how the painting was created. But what is even more important to Jane is that the painting brings a sense of wonder, joy or comfort. Her work is not high brow, it does not seek to make a deep statement but merely wants to encourage the viewer to notice that the world is beautiful and to look around a little more often.

Jane is largely self taught and drives herself to learn through observation and studying her favourite artists. She has not had any formal art training since leaving school and has only started pursuing art as a full time career at the end of 2020.

Since making the departure from the corporate world, Jane has embraced this new chapter with energy and love. As a recent newcomer to the art scene, Jane has courageously painted in public at the opening of a new council glasshouse in Balmain, displayed her works at local cafes and restaurants as well as actively participating in a number of art prizes and local art shows. She is a finalist at the Greenway Art Prize. She has also been sought out to paint commissions as well as selling 30+ of her original works in just over one year. Jane will be having her first solo exhibition at the Chrissie Cotter Gallery in Camperdown, NSW in June 2022.
